The Board recently received an e-mail from Bruce
Erwin, our newsletter editor. He must resign from the editorship
due to a change in his teaching responsibilities at Oberlin
College. We regret having to accept his resignation, and we
are most sorry to hear of this, for our sake, but hopeful that
this is a better position for him. This of course, means that
we must find a new editor, and soon, in view of several changes
taking place this year.
The most important
immediate concern is that everyone is reminded of the changes
in the place and date for the national competition, as reported
in the Fall, 2000 Newsletter. It will be at the Skagit Valley
Games in Wahington State on July 14, with a Regional qualifying
competition on Friday, July 13.
Jan Tappan,
our Vice President in charge of competitions, has informed all
competitors from last year who are eligible to compete this
year. As noted in the September newsletter, the Board approved
that all those qualified by July 1 of 2001 are qualified to
compete, and in addition, for this year only, all who qualified
for the year 2000 but who were unable to attend are eligible
for 2001. |

Wayne
Norris is in charge of the arrangements, with Calum McKinnon
helping. There are many events of interest to fiddlers at the
Skagit Valley Games, and Wayne is concerned that more people
have not indicated that they plan to come. I understnad that
they will try to accommodate visitors in homes of local members
during the games, but people should make plans as soon as possible.
The change to
the west coast is in keeping with the original intent of the
founders. As Paul Brockman has written to me, in a document
which will become part of our petition to the IRS to abtain
501(c)3 status as a non-profit corporation, The idea of
moving the national event around the country is to prevent convenience
and accessibility from contributing to the domination of any
one region of the nation in the development of the art.
We hope that
all the West Coast members will take advantage of the move to
participate in workshops, jam sessions, and to attend the competitions.
We need to show our appreciation for all the hard work Wayne
and his committee have put in. Be sure to visit the Skagit Valley
website at http://www.celticarts.com to see what is planned. |
